This European standard covers equipment and procedures for determining the thickness of thermal insulation products for impact sound insulation in floating floor applications.
The thickness is determined as the distance measured between the rigid flat base plate on which the test specimen rests and the rigid flat platen which applies different specified pressures to the upper surface of the test specimen.
The number of test samples will be as specified in the relevant product standard. If the number is not specified, ten test specimens will be used. In the absence of a product standard or any other European Technical Specification, the number of test samples may be agreed upon between the parties.
Test specimens should be cut to exclude product edges. Test samples shall be prepared by methods that do not alter the original structure of the product. All overlays will be preserved. The thickness can be measured at two diagonally opposite corners with the comparator or using a measuring device (pin) forced through an opening in the center of the platen or in the middle of the platen.
A sensor must be attached to one of the machine plates to measure the force produced by the reaction of the test sample on the plates. This sensor should be such that its deformation during the measurement process is negligible compared to the measured one. Otherwise, it is calculated and taken into account.
