EN 12771 Footwear, Test Methods for Outsoles, Standard Test for Tear Strength

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 12771 standard. This draft standard specifies a method for determining the tear strength of outsoles using trouser test pieces, regardless of material.

EN 12771 Footwear, Test Methods for Outsoles, Standard Test for Tear Strength

Mount the test piece on the testing machine; apply a continuously increasing traction force at a separation speed of 100 mm/min ± 10 mm/min until the part breaks. Record the force throughout the tearing process.

The machine should be provided with a type of clutch that automatically tightens as tension increases and applies an even pressure to the clamped end of the test piece. Each grip shall include a means for positioning the test pieces so that they are placed symmetrically and axially in line with the direction of pull.

The test is performed with at least three samples. Uniform thicknesses will be obtained by means of a suitable splitting machine. If possible, the smouth original "leather" surfaces of the specimen should remain unchanged in the specimens.
