EN 13124-1 Windows, Doors and Shutters, Explosion Proof, Test Method, Part 1: Standard Test Method for Shock Tube

This European standard specifies a conventional test procedure to allow blast resistance classification of windows, doors and shutters together with their fillings.

This European standard relates to a test method against blast waves generated using a blast tube installation to simulate a high explosive detonation of the order of 35 kg to 50 100 kg TNT at distances of about 2 m to 500 m.

This European standard covers only the behavior of the entire unit as tested, including padding, frame and fixings. It gives no information about the ability of the surrounding wall or building structure to resist direct or transmitted forces.

If windows, doors and shutters are designed for certain climatic conditions, certain test conditions may be required. It does not provide information about the behavior of volumes exposed to other types of loading.

Care must be taken to ensure that all connections between the wall and the window or door have at least equal protection to the window or door.

The test specimen size and method of fixing to the test specimen support should be agreed between the test authority and the applicant. The attacking face will be clearly marked. After the test, at the request of the applicant, the testing authority will return the test sample adequately and indelibly marked for retention.
