EN 13200-4 Spectator Facilities - Seats - Product Features

This standard covers the mechanical, physical and chemical product properties of fixed seating for spectator facilities used in the spectator viewing area in sports halls (indoor and outdoor). This standard specifies comfort, functionality and safety requirements to prevent serious injuries resulting from normal use, as well as misuse that is not reasonably expected to occur. This standard does not contain any fire behavior or durability requirements. Seating shall be securely fastened to steps or supports when installed in the spectator facilities area.

These requirements are met in the following cases:

• Accessible corners and edges are rounded or chamfered;
• All other corners and edges should be free of burrs and sharp edges;
• Hollow components with a diameter greater than 10 mm and less than 7 mm, where the accessible depth is greater than 12 mm, have closed or capped ends.

Movable and adjustable parts shall be designed to prevent injuries and accidental operation. It shall not be possible for any load-bearing part of the seat to loosen unintentionally. All parts lubricated to facilitate sliding shall be designed to protect the user from oil stains in normal use.

The design, which includes plans, sections and views and details of the seat, fixed support and fixing elements to an appropriate scale, shall include a declaration of conformity with this standard and a report of static tests on the seat.
