This European standard specifies a simplified method for estimating the total solar transmittance of a glass-incorporated sunscreen based on the thermal transmittance and total solar transmittance of the glass and the light transmittance and reflectance of the sunscreen.
The method applies to any type of sun protection device parallel to the glass, such as blinds, blinds or blinds. The location of the sun protection device can be inside, outside or between single windows in a double glazing system. It is applicable when the total solar energy transmittance of the glass is between 0,15 and 0,85. It is assumed that the blinds or blinds are set so that there is no direct sunlight ingress. For external sun protection devices and integrated sun protection devices it is assumed that the space between the sun protection devices and the glass is not ventilated, and for internal sun protection devices this area is ventilated.
The g values obtained from the simplified method given here are approximate and their deviations from the exact values range from +0,10 to -0,02. Results generally tend to be on the safe side for cooling load estimates. The results are not intended to be used to calculate useful solar gains or thermal comfort criteria.
The simplified method is based on the normal incidence of radiation and does not take into account neither the angular dependence of the transmittance nor the reflection or spectral distribution differences. A permission can be given for this fact when applying the method.
