This European Standard describes the method for evaluating the performance of protective systems for electrical cable and busbar systems to maintain circuit integrity under fire conditions in order to classify the protective system according to EN 135013 for P classification. The test examines the behavior of cable protection systems exposed to external fire.
The tests specified in this standard are not intended to evaluate the performance of the sealing gasket to meet the requirements of the fire protection system and the penetrating wall or ceiling (E/I classification).
This method is very different from EN 50200 for PH classification, as well as IEC 60331-11, IEC 60331-21, IEC 60331-23 and IEC 60331-25, which are not intended for fire protection systems for electrical wiring systems. This standard should be used in conjunction with EN 1363-1.
The test results are applied to fire protection systems for electrical cable systems for voltages up to 1 kV. The test procedure should also be used to determine the performance of protective systems for use with data and optical cables, although verification procedures for such cables are still under development.
The tests specified in this standard are not intended to evaluate the performance of sprayed or painted coatings (e.g. intumescent or abrasive coating, plastic).
Also excluded are cables and busbars that are intrinsically fire resistant and do not have a fire protection system around them. This test method is not applicable to electrical accessory cabinets containing bus systems, relays or the like.
