EN 1366-8 Fire Resistance Tests for Service Installations - Part 8: Standard Test for Smoke Evacuation Ducts

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 1366-8 testing. This part of this European standard specifies a test method for determining the fire resistance of smoke evacuation ducts. It is only applied to smoke evacuation channels passing through a fire compartment other than the fire compartment to be evacuated in case of fire. Represents the exposure of a fully developed fire to fire.

EN 1366-8 Fire Resistance Tests for Service Installations - Part 8: Standard Test for Smoke Evacuation Ducts

This test is designed to cover both vertical and horizontal smoke extraction ducts. However, if both horizontal and vertical tests have been performed on the particular system according to EN 1366-1, a vertical system need not be evaluated by this method, provided it has been tested in the horizontal direction to this method. However, in practice, if the system is to be used only for vertical applications in smoke extraction systems, it will need to be tested in the vertical direction according to this method.

Leakage is measured at both ambient and elevated temperatures. During the tests, air/gases are drawn from the duct at the differential pressure between the inside and outside of the duct. Leakage is determined at ambient temperature by closing the openings in the duct in the furnace and taking flow measurements with a flow measuring device placed just in front of the suction fan. Oxygen measurement techniques are used to determine leakage at high temperatures.

A tube sensor as specified in EN 1363-1 shall be located at the end of the conduit, inside the conduit, at the centerline level. A second sensor (for example, the open end of a measuring tube) should be placed at the same level outside the channel.

A flow control damper shall be provided for precise control to maintain the required differential pressure. Alternatively, another suitable device such as a variable speed fan can be used. Any flow control damper will be installed in the suction fan connection channel.
