This European standard specifies the parameters for the measurement of the dynamic coefficient of friction (u) on the surfaces of flexible, laminate and textile floor coverings that are usually walked on with shoes.
Relief floor coverings with a displacement of 4 cm3/dm2 are included. Measurements were made only on dry ground surfaces.
Dynamic friction testing is a way to evaluate the slipperiness of floors. Many testers have been made but they give different results as the design and construction methods are different and different test parameters are chosen.
Coils made of the defined material and having a certain shape are loaded in such a way that they exert a certain force on the floor covering.
The loaded cars are pulled at a constant speed parallel to the surface of the floor covering. The horizontal force applied to pull the sliders is recorded along a track length. The horizontal force is divided by the vertical force to obtain the dynamic friction coefficient.
