EN 13986 Standard Test for Wood Based Panels, Properties, Conformity Assessment and Marking for Use in Construction

This standard defines wood-based panels for use in construction and specifies the relevant specifications and appropriate test methods to determine these properties for unclad, overlapped, veneered or clad wood-based panels.

• For internal use as structural components in dry conditions;
• For internal (or protected external) use as structural components in humid conditions;
• For external use as structural components;
• For internal use as non-structural components in dry conditions;
• For internal (or protected external) uses as non-structural components in humid conditions;
• For external use as non-structural components;
• For use as structural flooring on beams in dry1 or damp2 or external3 conditions;
• For use as structural roofing over beams in dry1 or damp2 or external3 conditions;
• For use as structural wall covering on studs in dry1 or damp2 or external3 conditions.

It provides the assessment of conformity and the requirements for marking these products. This standard is for use in construction of solid wood panels, LVL), plywood, OSB, fiberboards (chipboards), either resin or cement bonded, wet process fibreboards (chipboards, center boards, softwoods) and dry process fibreboards (MDF).

They may contain chemicals to improve their response to fire and their resistance to biological attacks such as fungi and insects. This standard is not intended to apply to wood-based panels used in non-construction applications.
