This standard specifies fire test requirements for water mist systems used for fire protection of combustion turbines in enclosures with a volume not exceeding 260 m³.
Operating without manual intervention, the water mist system will successfully complete all performance fire tests described for its specific applications.
Fire tests shall be carried out until the fire is extinguished, as required by the applicable fire test. System components, component locations, operating conditions, and test enclosure details will remain unchanged throughout all fire tests for a given application.
In addition to fire tests, an optional spray cooling test can be performed and results should be analyzed with heat transfer calculations to verify that excessive turbine shell deterioration is prevented. A direct spray effect on the turbine housing is not permitted in actual installations, unless proven otherwise by heat transfer calculations using spray cooling test results.
The combustion turbine case model is simulated with a horizontal flat steel plate and steel partitions to provide protected areas for fires. The specific details and thermal mass of the barriers are not simulated. The combustion turbine dummy unit should be centered along the longer wall dimension in the test enclosure.
