For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in EN 1504-1:2005, EN 1504-7:2006 and ENV 1504-9:1997 apply.
The corrosion protection system is applied to steel bars and steel plate. The coating is removed from one longitudinal edge of the steel plate to investigate the potential for undercoat corrosion.
Half of the plate and each of the bars are embedded in the concrete. The samples are subjected to a series of decomposition cycles. Performance is evaluated by removing the steel from the concrete, then removing the corrosion protection product and examining whether the steel has evidence of corrosion on the steel.
The bars and steel plate are to be fully coated (on all sides) with the corrosion protection system according to the manufacturer's instructions. During application and curing of the coating, the steel bars should be stored upright and the steel plate flat.
The mixed material will be placed in the cylindrical mold and compacted thoroughly by vibro-compression or as otherwise instructed by the manufacturer. Release of the concrete will be achieved by covering the bottom of the mold with the repair product or a suitable film that does not react with the system. A light smear of mold oil can be used on the sides of the mold before mounting the base plate.
After completion of test cycles, exposed steel plate and bars should be inspected for evidence of damage or corrosion. The plate and bars will then be carefully removed from the concrete and embedded steel under investigation.
