EN 15651-1 Sealants for Non-Structural Use in Joints in Buildings and Crosswalks

This European standard specifies the definitions and requirements for non-structural facade sealants intended for sealing exterior wall joints, window and door perimeter joints in building construction, including interior facing.

This European standard does not apply to non-structural sealants of any form for use in interior walls and/or partitions and for oil-based sealants.

The short description of non-structural sealant for facade elements shall include the brand name, type (general chemical family), opaque or translucent, water-based or solvent-based or solvent-free, reactive or non-reactive, and one- or multi-component (e.g. water-based acrylic).

This test was developed to demonstrate that elastic sealants for outdoor use perform well at lower temperatures than those currently tested in EN ISO 11600 (for example, common winter temperatures in Northern Europe). The specific purpose is to ensure that the sealant continues to operate at – 30 ºC, which is a common winter temperature in cold climates. The test does not apply to plastic sealants.
