EN 16662-1 Road Vehicles - Complementary Grip Devices Test for Passenger and Light Duty Vehicle Tires

This standard provides specifications for safety, quality and performance requirements for additional gripping devices, commonly referred to as "SGDs", for tires type-approved according to current legislation, intended to be fitted to tires on vehicles of categories M1, N1, O1, O2.

The requirements in this standard apply to all SGDs, regardless of the material/technology used in their construction.

Where there are existing standards for the particular technology of the device, they are intended to be used in conjunction with this standard. If no standard exists for the specific technology, this standard applies.

All tests under this clause must be performed with anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and Anti-Slip Regulation System (ASR) activated, unless specifically written.

The test car must be equipped with snow tires of a size corresponding to one of the dimensions specified in the test car's approval certificate. The type of tire to be used to perform the test should be selected based on the test requirements and inflated to the pressure level specified by the automaker.
