EN 16781 Textile Child Care Products Child Sleeping Bags Test Standard for Use in Baby Cots

This standard specifies the safety requirements for children's sleeping bags used in a children's sleeping environment (i.e. unsupervised) and designed to provide sufficient warmth when sleeping in a cot or similar product, eliminating the need for an extra bed (for example, a child's crib).

Applies to products intended for use by younger children (less than approximately 24 months old), depending on the child's inability to get out of the cot.

This standard does not apply to products designed for outdoor use or when caring for premature or low-birth-weight children, or to products designed to keep a child warm in strollers or car seats (e.g. foot protectors).

Fold the sleeping bag along an axis between the mid-back and mid-front points, being careful to align the joints. Apply hooks to both the rear midpoints and the front midpoints. Hang the sleeping bag using a hook with the axis described in the vertical direction. Support the body of the sleeping bag to prevent bending or distortion of the neck opening during testing.

Using a ruler divided into sections no larger than 1 mm, measure the length of the neck opening between the posterior midpoints and anterior midpoints to the nearest 1mm. The neck opening circumference is equal to twice the measured neck opening.
