This European standard specifies the minimum requirements for self-contained open circuit compressed air underwater breathing apparatus and subassemblies to ensure minimum safe operation of the device up to a maximum depth of 50 m.
A particular self-contained open circuit compressed air underwater breathing apparatus may be approved only when the individual components meet the requirements of the test specification, which may be a complete standard or part of a standard, and practical performance tests have been successfully performed on it.
If for some reason a complete apparatus is not tested, simulation of the apparatus is allowed provided that the breathing characteristics are similar to those of the entire apparatus.
Apparatus and sub-assemblies shall be designed so that its components are located so that it is possible to carry out the necessary pre-dive functional checks.
