EN ISO 16581 specifies a method for determining the resistance of a laid flexible or laminate floor covering to mechanical stress caused by the simulated movement of a furniture leg.
The resistance of a tiled floor covering to the movement of a furniture leg with rounded edges and different loads is evaluated in terms of surface unevenness, surface damage, cuts of varying depths, and penetrating edges.
The footboard must always be parallel to the plane of the floor covering surface, even when moving the furniture leg. The device should be designed so that the mass applied while the foot is in motion corresponds to the target. Particular attention should be paid to floor coverings with high deformation to ensure that the vertical displacement of the foot is sufficient to support deformation of the floor.
For resilient floor coverings, ensure that the test paths are at least 100 mm from the edge of the test piece. Choose two separate test paths where the structure of the floor covering may result in different results for tests in different directions such as the longitudinal and transverse direction, or the main relief lines in the model for sheet floor coverings or alternately laid parallel to and diagonally to the edge for tiles or tiles.
Record the damage done for each test path. Scratches and marks on the surface and changes in gloss are not considered damage. In laminate flooring, pitting, deformation or delamination are considered damage.
