EN ISO 17892-8 Geotechnical Investigation - Unconsolidated Undrained Triaxial Test

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 17892-8 testing. EN ISO 17892-8 specifies a method for unconsolidated undrained triaxial compression tests. EN ISO 17892-8 applies to the laboratory determination of undrained triaxial shear strength under compression loading within the scope of geotechnical investigations.

EN ISO 17892-8 Geotechnical Investigation - Unconsolidated Undrained Triaxial Test

The cylindrical sample, which may contain intact, recompacted, remolded or reconstructed soil, is subjected to an isotropic stress under undrained conditions and then sheared under undrained conditions. The test allows determination of shear strength and stress-strain relationships in terms of total stresses. Non-standard procedures such as tests by measuring pore pressure or tests with filter drains are not covered in this standard.

This standard covers areas that have never been standardized before in the international field of geotechnical engineering. This standard is intended to provide broad good practice worldwide, and significant differences with national documents are not expected. It is based on international practice.

The triaxial cell must be able to withstand the applied cell pressure without the cell fluid leaking out of the cell. If possible, transparent cells should be used. The sealing bush and piston guide must be designed so that the piston runs smoothly with minimal friction and maintains alignment. The material of the top cover and the base and the connection between the top cover and the piston should be such that their deformations are negligible compared to the deformations of the soil sample. The diameter of the top cover and base should normally be equal to the diameter of the sample. Samples with diameters smaller than the diameter of the end caps may be tested provided that no sub-membrane voids are formed at the ends of the sample.
