EN ISO 23537-1 Sleeping Bags - Test for Thermal - Mass and Dimensional Requirements for Sleeping Bags

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 23537-1 test. This standard specifies requirements, test methods and other provisions for the labeling of adult sized sleeping bags used in sports and leisure activities at a limit temperature of ≥ -20°C with respect to thermal properties, dimensions and mass.

EN ISO 23537-1 Sleeping Bags - Test for Thermal - Mass and Dimensional Requirements for Sleeping Bags

This standard describes a method for evaluating the performance of a sleeping bag in steady state conditions for protection against cold. Sleeping bags without homogeneous fillings, designed to locally provide extra insulation in certain parts, cause problems with the calibration or testing procedure. Ongoing work continues to provide suitable tools for the determination of temperature values.

This standard does not apply to sleeping bags for special purposes such as military use and extreme climate zone expeditions. Does not apply to sleeping bags for children or infants.

No predictive model is available for determining limit temperatures based on the thermal resistance of the sleeping bag for children and infants. In addition, such a test model cannot be developed because it is not possible to conduct the necessary controlled sleep trials with children or babies in air-conditioning rooms due to ethical reasons.

EN ISO 23537-1 is a standard that specifies thermal, mass and size requirements for sleeping bags designed for limit temperatures of -20°C and above. The standard aims to ensure that sleeping bags meet minimum performance requirements to keep users safe and comfortable during cold weather camping or outdoor activities.

The standard specifies the requirements for three basic parameters: thermal insulation, mass and dimensions. Thermal insulation is measured in a laboratory environment and the sleeping bag must provide minimal insulation to meet the standard. Mass requirements ensure that the sleeping bag is light enough to be easily carried during outdoor activities, while size requirements ensure that the sleeping bag fits snugly to the wearer and provides enough space for a comfortable sleep.

EN ISO 23537-1 also includes requirements for labeling and packaging of the sleeping bag, as well as test methods to measure these parameters.

In general, EN ISO 23537-1 specifies minimum requirements for thermal, mass and dimensional performance for sleeping bags designed for cold weather camping or outdoor activities. By meeting these requirements, manufacturers can ensure that sleeping bags are lightweight and easy to carry while providing adequate warmth and comfort to users.
