This standard specifies the design, installation, commissioning and service requirements for a sound system for emergency purposes (ssep) primarily intended to broadcast information for the protection of life in one or more specified indoor or outdoor spaces.
Ssep aims to initiate rapid and orderly mobilization of occupants in an emergency by incorporating systems that use loudspeakers to broadcast emergency voice announcements, warning signals in accordance with ISO 7731 (where applicable) and evacuation signals in accordance with ISO 8201.
In some cases, sound systems are preferable to sirens or bells to broadcast a series of coded alerts that are difficult to communicate with.
The use of ssep for normal sound reinforcement and distribution systems purposes under non-hazardous conditions is not excluded. When used for non-emergency purposes, the zones of the loudspeakers may differ from those used for emergency purposes.
EN ISO 7240-19 does not apply to sound systems using bells or sirens.
