The water vapor transmission rate is most commonly of interest when the coating is applied to a porous Substrate. Depending on the conditions of use, water vapor can be expected to pass through the pavement in both directions.
The procedure is generally used to compare the transmission rates of two or more different paint films and is not used to obtain precise results. In the latter case, it may be preferable to perform the detection on a test piece coated with a suitable permeable Substrate. The procedure for making this determination is the subject of EN ISO 7783-2.
