IEC 60332-3-22 Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables Under Fire Conditions, Part 3-22: Vertical Flame Propagation of Vertically Mounted Bundled Wires or Cables

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of IEC 60332-3-22 standard. IEC 60332-3-22 covers category A for test methods for the evaluation of vertical flame propagation of electrically or optically vertically mounted bundled wires or cables under defined conditions.

This standard concerns cables installed on a test ladder to obtain a nominal total volume of non-metallic material, which is 7 l/m of test sample. Flame application time is 40 minutes. In the assembly method, the front side of the ladder is used, for cables with a conductor cross section greater than 35 mm2, a standard or wide ladder is used according to the required number of test pieces.

The category is for general use where it is necessary to evaluate high volumes of non-metallic material. The test is designed for type approval testing. Flame spread is measured as the extent of damage to the cable sample. This procedure can be used to demonstrate the cable's ability to limit flame spread.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

• Corrections made in the title and elsewhere, apply to metallic conductor types as well as fiber optic cables to highlight the standard;
• The details of the way the cables are mounted on the ladder are better defined to improve repeatability and repeatability.
