IEC 61591 Cooking Fume Extractors, Standard Test for Measuring Performance

It can also be used for cooking fume extractors where the fan is installed separately from the appliance but controlled by the appliance when the fan is defined in the technical documentation (eg nameplate data) and installation instructions. This standard also deals with downdraft systems placed next to, behind or below the cooking appliance.

This standard defines the main performance characteristics of these devices of interest to the user and specifies methods for measuring these characteristics. This standard does not specify a classification or ranking for performance. This standard is not related to the safety requirements according to IEC 60335-1 and IEC 60335-2-31.

Variable speed control hoods and other cooking fume extractors should be tested with fan control set to 75% of maximum airflow. This highest setting of the control for normal use should be marked on the control panel and explained in the instructions.

The distance between the cord's entry points to the hood, external blower or downdraft system and the plug is measured and indicated in meters, rounded up to the nearest 0,05 m.
