ISO 11948-1 Urine Absorbent Auxiliaries, Part 1: Whole Product Testing

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 11948-1 testing. Provides a method for determining the absorbent core of the absorbent core of body-worn urine absorbent adjuncts.

ISO 11948-1 Urine Absorbent Auxiliaries, Part 1: Whole Product Testing

The method measures the maximum absorbent capacity of the absorbent material in the entire urine absorbent aid. The method is useful for comparing the performance of products whose absorbent cores are uniform in composition and absorbent properties, but it overestimates the amount of urine these products retain in actual use. The method has not been validated to predict the performance of urine absorbent adjuncts designed in such a way that the absorbent cores are not uniform in composition and absorbent properties.

The user performance of the urine suction aid is affected by many other factors in addition to its absorbent capacity, such as: pressure on the product; the user's posture (eg sitting, standing, moving, lying down); flow rate at which the user is urinating; and how well the product is placed. It is known from user trials that urine absorbent aid performance is also affected by composition and design features such as shaping, profiling, composition of the absorbent core, elasticisation, and the type of fastening system used to hold the product close to the body. This method does not distinguish these product features.

The urine-absorbent adjuvant is weighed dry, immersed in the test liquid, drained and wet weighed. Subtracting the dry mass from the wet mass gives the absorption capacity.

The coefficient of variation for Rothwell capacity (a measure of product consistency) had a significant effect on the leakage performance of diapers, but not inserts. Diapers with the worst consistency were more likely to leak than that for the best by about 10 percentage points. Similarly, diapers are about 10 percent more likely to leak when used at night than during the day.
