ISO 1268-4 Fiber Reinforced Plastics - Methods for Producing Test Plates - Molding Test of Prepregs

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 1268-4 testing. ISO 1268-4 describes the preparation of test plates from unidirectional layers of fiber or fabric (prepregs) pre-impregnated under pressure and temperature in various types of equipment (for example, autoclave, bladder press, hydraulic press, or vacuum bag equipment). Applies to all supplements and resins.

ISO 1268-4 Fiber Reinforced Plastics - Methods for Producing Test Plates - Molding Test of Prepregs

This method can be applied to reinforcements pre-impregnated with partially cured thermoset resin or thermoplastic resin. The test plate is formed by stacking layers of pre-impregnated material in the required order and direction, followed by compression and final consolidation under pressure/vacuum at a temperature above ambient. The prepared test plates are then processed into the required test specimens.

Standard plates prepared in this way can either contain the components, i.e. reinforcement, lacquer, resin, etc. It can be used to evaluate or verify the overall quality of the finished product.

Standard plates intended for the preparation of test specimens are produced from fiber-reinforced prepregs by cutting the required number of sheets to size and stacking them in the required sequence and direction. The prepreg stack is initially consolidated and the trapped air is removed using mechanical compression or an applied vacuum.

The combined batch, normally sealed in an evacuated vacuum bag, is then finally combined using one of several possible combinations of heat and pressure, depending on the equipment used and the material supplier's processing instructions. Suitable processing routes include using an autoclave, a presclave, an applied vacuum only, or a hydraulic press.

The purpose of a laminate stack identification system is to provide a method for describing the placement of a laminate based on unidirectional (UD) or fabric reinforced layers. The use of identification will avoid confusion and also prevent the production and testing of incorrect test plates.
