ISO 5636-2 Paper and Cardboard - Determination of Air Permeability (Mid Range) - Part 2: Schopper Method

This International standard specifies methods for measuring the rate of air flow through a unit area of ​​a sheet of paper or cardboard under a unit pressure difference. Measurements can be made with any apparatus that conforms to the specifications given in this International standard.

IS0 5636-1 specifies basic requirements and general operating procedures for the apparatus. Other sections specify detailed requirements and operating procedures that apply to certain types of apparatus.

By keeping the absolute air pressure equivalent to atmospheric pressure on one side of the test piece's test area and the pressure difference between the two sides of the test piece to a small value, a test piece is clamped between two airtight annular gaskets of known dimensions, but with a substantially constant value during the test.

More than ten test pieces should be cut and their two surfaces defined, for example the top side and the wire side. The minimum size of the test piece should be such that it protrudes noticeably from the clamping unit in all directions and provides the test area. The test area should be free of folds, wrinkles, holes, watermarks or imperfections. normally not natural on paper or cardboard.
