EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 7240-17 standard. This standard specifies requirements, test methods and performance criteria for conduction path isolators for use in fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings.
Transmission path isolators, renamed short circuit isolators, reflect that the isolators considered are intended to limit the consequences of low parallel resistance faults between the lines of the transmission paths of a fire detection and fire alarm system.
This is normally achieved by connecting the conduction path in a loop configuration, separating parts of the loop with conduction path isolators, and introducing a means to detect the presence of a fault if its consequences (e.g. reduction in line voltage) compromise the correct operation of the fault. The faulty section of the loop can then be closed between a pair of conduction path isolators and the rest of the loop is allowed to continue operating correctly.
It is recognized that it is not possible for this component standard to specify all the requirements for the function of the bus isolator in a system. The requirements for the operation of a conduction path isolator depend on the operation of the system, other components associated with the conduction path (e.g. control and indicating equipment and detectors), and conduction path parameters (e.g. line impedance and line loads) and will need to be verified in a system test.
