ISO 8030 Flammability Test Method for Rubber and Plastic Hoses

ISO 8030 specifies a method for assessing the flammability of hoses for combustion engines, excluding hoses intended for use with petroleum fuels. The method is limited to hoses with a nominal diameter of up to 50 mm.

The test specified in this International Standard is a small-scale laboratory test and therefore it is important to note that the results obtained may be indicative only and do not allow for prediction of behavior in a fire.

First of all it is a screening or quality control test and has been used for many years to evaluate the suitability of hoses, especially for underground use.

Attention is drawn to the need to carry out the test specified in this International Standard under appropriate environmental conditions and to ensure that personnel are adequately protected against the risk of fire and inhalation of smoke or toxic combustion products.

No testing will be carried out within 24 hours after the hose is manufactured. Test pieces should be conditioned at standard temperature and humidity for at least 3 hours prior to testing. This may be part of the 24-hour period after production.
