JIS K6400-2 Flexible Cellular Polymeric Materials - Part 2: Test for Determination of Compression Hardness and Stress-Strain Properties

The compressive stress-strain characteristic differs from the indentation stiffness properties, which are known to be affected by the thickness and tensile properties of the flexible cellular material tested, the shape of the compression member and the tensile properties.

This standard is a general method for testing denser resilient cellular materials (ie expanded cellular rubbers) and measurements are made at one of the multiple points on the steep rising portion of the stress-strain curve. The form factor of the test piece is important and comparative test results can only be obtained on test pieces with the same form factor.

This conditioning period may constitute the final part or all of the entire post-manufacturing period in the case of testing 16 hours after manufacture. In the case of quality control tests, test pieces can be taken in a shorter time (up to at least 12 hours) after production, and testing after conditioning is done for a shorter time (up to at least 6 hours).
