NFPA 268 Standard Test Method for Determining the Flammability of Exterior Wall Assemblies Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of NFPA 268 testing. This test method evaluates the ignition propensity of an outer wall assembly exposed to a minimum of 12,5 kW/m 2 (1,10 Btu/ft 2) radiant heat flow.

NFPA 268 Standard Test Method for Determining the Flammability of Exterior Wall Assemblies Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source

This method determines whether an outer wall assembly ignites when the wall is exposed to a given flow of radiant heat in the presence of a pilot ignition source for a period of 20 minutes. This test method applies to exterior wall assemblies with planar or nearly planar exterior surfaces.

This method should not be used to evaluate the fire resistance of wall assemblies and should not be used to evaluate the impact of fires originating from inside the building or from exterior wall assemblies.

This method should not be used to assess surface flame spread and should not be used to assess the effect of openings for ignition tendencies. This test will be used for code and other regulatory purposes, specification and design purposes, and research and development activities.

This fire test response standard measures and describes the properties of materials, products or assemblies in response to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions and should not be used to describe or evaluate the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products or assemblies under: However, the results of this test should be allowed to be used as an element of a fire risk assessment that takes into account all factors relevant to the fire hazard assessment of a particular end use.

In this procedure, samples are subjected to one or more specific laboratory test conditions. If different test conditions are changed or end-use conditions are changed, it is not possible for this test to predict all changes in the measured fire test response characteristics. Therefore, the results are valid only for the fire test exposure conditions described in this procedure.

This fire test response standard includes hazardous materials, operations and equipment. This standard does not address all security problems associated with its applications. It is the responsibility of the user of the standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of the standard's regulatory limitations before use.
