UL 10C, Standard Test for Positive Fire Pressure of Door Assemblies

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of UL 10C standard. These fire testing methods are applicable to revolving door assemblies of various materials and construction types, including lighted and paneled door frames.

UL 10C, Standard Test for Positive Fire Pressure of Door Assemblies

The method does not provide an evaluation of the swing door assembly when the assembly is part of a larger assembly (eg, the sliding fire door assembly) or is intended for use as an elevator entrance.

Testing in accordance with these test methods aims to record performance during test exposure; however, such tests should not be interpreted as determining suitability for use after exposure to fire.

The tests conducted in accordance with these test methods are intended to allow the development of data that will enable regulatory agencies to determine the suitability of door assemblies for use where fire resistance is required for a certain period of time.

These methods are intended to evaluate the ability of a door assembly to remain in an opening during a predetermined test exposure.

The tests expose a sample to a standard fire controlled to reach certain temperatures for a specified period of time followed by the application of a specified standard fire hose flow.

However, exposure is not representative of all fire conditions that vary with the amount, nature and distribution of the fire load, changes in ventilation, compartment size and configuration, and heat sink properties of the compartment. However, it provides a relative measure of the fire performance of door assemblies under these specified fire exposure conditions.

Methods do not provide:

  • Full information on the performance of all door assemblies in walls made of materials other than those tested;
  • Assessing the extent to which the door assembly contributes to the fire risk by generating smoke, toxic gases or other combustion products;
  • a temperature limit on the non-exposed side of the door assembly;
  • A limit on the number of openings allowed in glazed areas or the number and size of side openings between the door and the frame;
  • Measuring the degree of control or restriction of the passage of smoke or combustion products through the door assembly.
