This standard applies to elastomeric or thermoplastic polymers that are generally round in cross-section and whose characteristic components are thermosetting. These requirements also cover heat-shrinkable and cross-linked tubing.
Conduit is intended for use only in air, dry and humid locations, as part of internal wiring of electrical appliances and appliances in accordance with Canadian electrical code, part 1 and ANSI/NFPA 70, national.
One or more poorly insulated conductors can be used to insulate busbars, motor cables, transformer cables, terminal lugs, or small assemblies of electronic components. The tubing is not intended for use in contact with sharp edges, corners or protrusions or in locations subject to tension, compression or repeated flexing.
The piping is not designed specifically for use where it is possible to use a standard insulated conductor (device-wiring material) for this purpose.
These requirements do not apply to fabric sleeving, chemically dilated sleeving, reinforcement-extruded polymeric cores, or tubing for mechanical protection only.
The acceptability of piping in any particular appliance or device is dependent upon its acceptability for continued use under the conditions prevailing in actual service.
Accordingly, for a particular application, it will be necessary in some cases to use pipes with features other than or in addition to those specified in these requirements. For example, the pipe may need to have a heavier wall thickness or a flat surface rather than a round cross section; may need to have inherent resistance to the effects of immersion in water, oil, solvents or other liquids (or their vapors); It may need to be used in an environment conducive to the growth of fungi and similar organisms.
