SATRA TM411 Standard Test for Peeling Strength of Sole Laces

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of SATRA TM411 test standard. The purpose of this method is to determine the strength of the bond between the sole and the upper or bonded layers of the sole construction at a series of points around the final margin of the finished shoe.

The method applies to all types of molded and glued soles, where the sole is attached directly to the permanent edge of the upper, with the exception of narrow strap sandals (less than 35 mm).

Test specimens are prepared by cutting a sole strip along with an upper strip or outsole strip and an attached midsole strip from a finished piece of shoe. The exact configuration of the test specimen depends on the type of construction and two fundamentally different methods are used to prepare the specimens:

Method 1: For structures where the single edge protrudes far enough from the top edge to provide a gripable portion during testing, the test specimen is cut along the end edge.
Method 2: For other structures, the sample is cut parallel to the edge of the base.

Each specimen is then peeled using a tensile testing machine and the force required to separate the top from the base is measured. In all cases, the goal is to test the bond strength closest to the edge of the assembly that will be exposed to the view.
