EN 54-22 Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems - Resettable Line Type Heat Detectors

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of EN 54-22 testing. This European Standard covers resettable in-line heat detectors intended for use in fire detection, consisting of a sensing element using optical fibre, pneumatic tube or electrical sensor cable, connected directly or via an interface module to a sensor control unit.

EN 54-22 Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems - Resettable Line Type Heat Detectors

This standard defines minimum system functionality for RLTHD products. RLTHD is based on many unique operating principles. The aim of this standard is to define common operating characteristics for each type of RLTHD, together with existing EN 54 detector standards, so that resettable line-type heat detectors have a response behavior comparable to point-type heat detectors.

Due to the variety of applications for RLTHD, separate environmental classification tests need to be designed for the sensing element and sensor control units of these systems. It is not the purpose of this standard to define applications or define how RLTHD should be used in applications. However, two general application areas are specified in the standard; room protection and secondly local protection. The standard defines separate response test classifications for these two areas.

This European Standard specifies the requirements and performance criteria, relevant test methods and provides for the Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance (AVCP) of trippable inline heat detectors according to this EN.

This European Standard also covers resettable in-line heat detectors intended for use in local protection of plant and equipment.

Resettable in-line heat detectors with special characteristics and developed for specific risks are not within the scope of this EN. This European Standard does not cover inline heat detectors based on non-resettable, constant temperature electrical cables (so-called digital systems).

Preset data, such as the program and manufacturer's settings required to comply with this standard, must be kept in non-volatile memory. Writing to the memory areas containing this program and data will only be possible with the use of some special tool or code and will not be possible during normal operation of the RLTHD.
