The test specimen is folded in half, then fixed at one end with a clamp. The test specimen is then inverted and secured with a second clamp with the free end 90 degrees to the first. The first clamp is repeatedly oscillated at a fixed angle at a certain rate causing the test specimen to flex.

At regular intervals, the number of stretching cycles is recorded and damage to the test specimen is evaluated visually. The test can be performed with wet or dry test specimens and at ambient or sub-zero temperatures.
