This part of EN ISO 13937 describes a single tearing method for determining fabric tearing force, known as the flap test, using a test sample cut to form two flaps to clamp at an angle to the yarn direction.
The measured tear force is the force required to propagate a tear that has already begun. The test is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics.
EN ISO 13937 has been prepared as part of several test methods for the determination of certain mechanical properties of textiles, mainly using tensile testing machines; tensile properties, seam tensile properties, tear properties, seam slippage, etc.
Testing requirements for these standards agree where appropriate. Results obtained with one method should not be compared with results obtained with other methods.
