IEC 61133 Rolling Stock - Testing of Wagons After Construction Completion and Before Entering Service

This International IEC 61133 standard specifies general criteria for testing and demonstrating that newly built complete railway vehicles comply with standards or other normative documents.

This standard applies, in whole or in part, to all railway vehicles except special-purpose vehicles such as track laying machines, ballast cleaners and personnel carriers. The scope of application of the standard for certain vehicles will be specifically stated in the contract, taking into account any legal requirements where necessary.

The parts of the standard that are applicable will depend on the type of vehicle (eg passenger, cargo, motor trailer, etc.). The scope of this standard does not cover rail and road/rail vehicles for the construction and maintenance of rail infrastructure. This standard does not cover testing on components or equipment before they are installed in the vehicle.

As applicable, this International Standard may be used for:

• Generator sets mounted on a vehicle provided for utility purposes;
• Electric transmission used in trolleybus or similar vehicles;
• Control and auxiliary equipment of vehicles with non-electric propulsion systems;
• Vehicles guided, assisted or electrically driven by systems that do not use adhesion between the wheel and the rail.

Special technical requirements apply to vehicles operating on railways in the European Union. The source of these requirements is given in Appendix B. Where a European requirement applies to a particular substance, a note is appended to the end of the clause.
