ISO 19880-5 Gaseous Hydrogen - Test for Distributor Hoses

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 19880-5 standard. This standard specifies requirements for wire or textile reinforced hoses and hose assemblies suitable for dispensing hydrogen up to a nominal working pressure of 40 MPa in the operating temperature range of -65 °C to 70 °C.

This document contains safety requirements for the material, design, manufacture and testing of gaseous hydrogen hose and hose assemblies for hydrogen fueling stations.

Hoses and hose assemblies that fall outside the scope of this document are:

• Used as part of the vehicle's high-pressure fuel storage system,
• Used as part of a vehicle low pressure fuel delivery system, and
• Flexible metal hoses.

This document was developed primarily for hoses and hose assemblies for delivering high pressure hydrogen from refueling devices to hydrogen vehicles. Requirements for hoses used to deliver hydrogen from a portable ship (eg trailer) to a station's buffer tank are addressed in ISO 16964.

Hose assemblies include hose with connectors at both ends.

Each connector has two key functional elements that are addressed as described below:

• Hose connection. This functionality is defined by requirements and validated by performance-based tests (along with the hose itself) in this document.
• Suitable for transition and connection to piping system or equipment. This function is addressed with reference to appropriate hydrogen equipment standards and piping codes.
