Low Lubrication Fuel Test

Product Sufficiency Tests

Low Lubrication Fuel Test

Low lubrication is a liquid test for products and systems that contain moving parts. The low lubrication test used to determine the working life of the components focuses on the relationship between the age and temperature of the fluid and the mechanical wear of the working products.

Low Lubrication Fuel Test

Why is a low lubrication test done?

Like most fuel tests, a low lubrication test is used to determine how test components work when operating in the worst case. Because lubricating fluids cycle over time, they are less effective in reducing the friction between components, increasing the chance of wear and damage to parts. This results in shortened products' lifespan and more maintenance on engines and systems.

The low lubrication test provides reliable estimates of how well a product can stay under certain conditions. By conducting working cycles with specially conditioned fluids, we learn about product safety, maintenance requirements and system longevity.

How is the low lubrication test done?

We perform low liquid lubrication test according to ASTM D5001 standards. To create the proper level of lubrication, we pass the test liquid through specially designed clay filters that remove various compounds from the samples. Depending on the test schedule, we can also create a high temperature environment that further reduces fluid lubrication.

Using a ball on the Cylinder Lubrication Evaluator (BOCLE), we can measure the lubrication value of the test fluid to ensure that the properties are suitable for the test. With properly conditioned fluid, we perform working cycles in the test component while monitoring key performance characteristics and signs of deterioration. When an out-of-tolerance condition or unit malfunction occurs, the component can be broken down and examined to find the most sensitive properties.

As a single source provider for environmental, hydraulic and fuel tests, our laboratory can provide unique services for low lubrication testing. Our clay filters conditioning system and operational fluid systems are built in-house to change the lubrication levels for a range of test programs.

For special projects, we can check both lubrication and temperature levels and create automatic test systems that can run for hundreds or even thousands of hours. Our test stands are built to provide extreme temperature, complexity and power, even for the largest projects.
