IEC EN 62561-5 Lightning Protection System Components (LPSC) - Part 5: Requirements for Ground Electrode Inspection Housings and Ground Electrode Seals

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62561-5 testing. IEC EN 62561-5 specifies the requirements and tests for ground electrode inspection housings (grounding housing) and ground electrode seals attached to the ground. Lightning protection system components (LPSC) may also be suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres. Therefore, there are additional requirements when installing components under such conditions.

IEC EN 62561-5 Lightning Protection System Components (LPSC) - Part 5: Requirements for Ground Electrode Inspection Housings and Ground Electrode Seals

This part of IEC EN 62561 deals with the requirements and tests for lightning protection system components (LPSC), particularly earth electrode inspection housings and earth electrode seals, used for the installation of a lightning protection system (LPS) designed and implemented in accordance with IEC EN 62305. ( all episodes).

All ground electrode inspection housings and ground electrode seals must be designed and manufactured in such a way that their performance in normal use is reliable and does not pose a hazard to persons and the environment. The choice of a material depends on its ability to meet specific application requirements.

The design of the earth electrode inspection enclosure shall be such that it has sufficient internal dimensions to perform the function of shutting down the down conductor/ground rod termination in an acceptable and safe manner and to allow attachment/removal of the ground rod clamp. The housing stem must be deep enough to allow the closure to sit flush with the stem without contaminating the rod/conductor/clamp assembly.

The tests conforming to this standard are type tests. Once these tests are done, they do not need to be repeated unless changes are made in the material, design or production method that could change the performance characteristics of the product.
