IEC EN 62561-8 Lightning Protection System Components (LPSC) - Part 8: Requirements and Tests for Isolated LPS Components

IEC EN 62561-8 specifies requirements and tests for isolation separators used with an air-termination system and down conductors to maintain the proper separation distance, and requirements and tests for insulation. Testing of dielectric disconnectors and insulating down-conductor components for an explosive atmosphere is not covered by this document. Requirements and testing for other component types for isolated LPS are being evaluated.

An insulating spacer must hold, support and insulate the conductor when subjected to lightning discharge stress under high impulse voltage and withstand mechanical and environmental influences such as vertical and axial compressive loads caused by the weight of the conductor supported across it.

The manufacturer or supplier of the insulation disconnector must provide sufficient information in the assembly instructions to enable the installer to properly and safely select and install the component in accordance with the requirements of IEC 62305-3.
